Inject some Diablo 2 into Guildwars
One thing that Diablo does really well is the "make your own game" mechanic.
Diablo players will obviously know this, when you want to go into a game, you create it with your own name, password, etc.
Guildwars should have this put into its mechanic as well. For example, when you go out of town, it's pretty much your own game. There you can set a game name and password, or by default, it is left blank.
This is let people who disconnected rejoin your game or people who want to join you.
Say for example, you have 7 players in your group and you friend wants to join, you can then set a game name/password for them to enter.
Or when someone drops from your game, that person is replaced by a AI until they return.
Don't undersatnd why Anet won't implement this idea.

Too much of a hassle...GW wasn't designed the way D2 is...implementing it now would require a huge redo of the work !

Or you could just kick the idiots out of your party before entering the area/mission. There really is no point to doing this.

I can see how it is now. The GW Fanatics would like the game to say without any change and only small comestic changes that won't do anything to help make the game more interesting.
So you like doing missions until the very end, and then a bunch of people leaving do you? You like not being able to have your best friend join you in battle? Or maybe you like spending hours in a mission only to have it error 007 on you right at the end.
It's not a hassle. Nothing changes if you don't want it to. The default is NO game name. ONly when someone wants to join or rejoin the game, they can whisper you. Maybe just set the game name as the party leader's name.

This whole mechanic you describe would be exploited like none other. It's just a way to sidestep DP completely, and it would also be hellishly taxing on the GW servers.
I would be happy to see some good changes implemented in Guild Wars. This is not one of them.

But the game is already so much like Diablo; why add more?
Go ahead and give us a rough estimation of the amount of code/time/resources adding something like this to the existing GW game would require. I have a feeling it's a lot.
But basically this is the same thing people have been asking since prerelease: reconnects. It's juat a matter of how to implement them.

Wow, you are amazing - through the replies of 2 people you have, using only your powers of deduction come to a conclusion about the feeling of over 2 million people! Staggering!
Reconnections is one area that the dev team is looking at. There are play issues associated with it. Error=7 is a killer in GvG, costing you a match when you otherwise might have won, for example, but a reconnection does little to help there, and while someone may drop from your group, the ability to rejoin or to join a game in progress changes the way running and so on works. Use the search button (or google if it is down), and don't bring up D2 as what GW should aspire to if you don't want criticism/resistence.
BTW, one solution would simply be to have the option "Pause game in case of disconnection?" which would freeze things, allowing reconnection at the same point. This would present no real advantage then to the disconnecting player, and may help for GvG for example.

Wouldn't work.
What would happen if you had a full party, then all but the leader quits right before the very end of a difficult mission. Then the players that dropped grab one of their other characters and rejoin the mission to get credit for completion.
And with Factions, where would you count the time - from the leader entering the mission or the player joining?

I think the idea is nice, but I don't see any way to avoid the exploit Dougal Kronik mentioned. I was close to /signing this until I gave it some thought of how it could be used.
Although, this might be practical in explorable areas. The "game name" is your character name and the password is set ahead of time, say, in your options menu. I would like friends to be able to join me while I'm in the middle of something.
But then at that point, ANet has just spent a lot of time putting in a feature that's so water-down from its original concept that it isn't worth the effort.

GW is just like Diablo 2, its a matter of time, actually I think chapter 3 will have set items where you complete a set for extra bonuses. GW resembles Diablo2 in many ways lol. The thing that differs them is that GW you dont need to create a own server, its one big server, I like this better than joining a game.
I actually think GW is Diablo3 in disguise!!

wankey's idea (in it's entirety) is pretty bad. Some sensible posts in this thread have already clearly demonstrated the PvP AND PvE abuse that would run rampant. (Imagine how awesome it would be to have 5 players switch out thier characters in GvG...errrr...not).
We still DO need a reconnect feature though...one where if your character wasn't present when the instance launched (in GvG, missions, whatever) then he/she can't get back in.
On an unrelated note...I seem to recall D2 being hellishly different from GW. Armors had different varying levels of class and defense, weapons worked the same way. In fact any character could weild any weapon, wear any armor, use any rune. Stat points didn't affect skills. All skills were always available. There were no missions. Drops aren't assigned. Parties could form and reform in game, anywhere in the world and were ineffectual anyways. PvP was reduced almost to a kind of rock, paper, scissors 1 on 1, where certain classes were almost totally invulnerable to others. Individuals were ladder ranked (there were no guilds) based on experience that you lost when you died. Hell, the list goes on and on and on...

I'd like it if they take the idea from the Diablo II expansion pack of when you customize your weapon it adds your name to it, so like "Name's Sundering Long Sword." That's just me though.

I would like doomlord to represent me...
but we're off topic^^
It would take alot of strain on the servers to allow people to join in the midst of a mission or quest, at the moment, they promised to get something patched up in the login screen that would allow you to re-enter a mission or GvG battle if you D/Ced
